Spotlight: Let Love In by Melissa Collins

Release date: May 10th

Synopsis
What would happen if you lost everything? If the people who were supposed to love you unconditionally were no longer there for you, how would your world change?

That’s exactly what happened to Madeleine Becker when her parents died when she was ten years old. Ripped from her home and everything that she has ever loved, she is forced to start all over again. The only way for her to move on is to build walls around her heart and keep everyone at a safe distance. Her logic: she can't get hurt if she doesn't fall in love.

That theory is blown to pieces when she meets Reid Connely during her freshman year at college. He is gorgeous and darkly mysterious. He understands Maddy's pain all too well, but sharing his pain would mean breaking down the walls he put up around his own heart. Conflicted between loving Maddy and hiding his dark past, Reid starts to reevaluate his world. Maddy's inner strength, snarky personality and breath taking beauty help Reid to make peace with his past.

Together they find out what happens when they let love in.

Snippet of Maddy and Reid’s First Encounter

There was a group playing quarters on the island and another group lining up shots on the breakfast bar – so not my scene. I just shrugged my shoulders, opened the door, pulled out a bottle of water and, when I turned around to walk back outside, I face-planted into a wall of solid muscle.

“Hand me one?” His voice was smooth and... gruff at the same time. Red-faced, I turned back around and got him his water, glad for the cool respite that the opened refrigerator door offered.

“Here you go.” I could not peel my eyes away from his mouth as he moved the bottle to his lips. They were perfect - beautiful and full in a completely masculine way. I watched, completely fascinated, as his throat moved, downing the water in three or four large gulps. He wiped his mouth with his forearm and I couldn’t help but let my eyes travel up the rest of his arm to his biceps and shoulders – those were the same as his lips – perfect. Amazingly, gorgeously, utterly, divinely perfect. Muscled and tanned, his arms were mouthwatering.

My knees wobbled. My heart thudded. Thousands of butterflies spread their wings in my belly.

“Thanks…” he stared blankly at my face for a minute and I couldn't help but wondering if he liked what he saw. He cleared his throat and roused me from my little daydream where the gorgeous boy is mesmerized by the maybe-a-little-above-average looking girl. That’s when I realized he was asking for my name.

“Maddy. Sorry, my name’s Maddy." I nearly choked on my tongue to get my freaking name out.

Author Bio

I’ve always been an avid reader. Majoring in English Literature was a no brainer. Becoming a teacher and instilling my love for reading into my students was also a no brainer. I’ve spent the last ten years teaching and I’ve loved (mostly) every minute of it. When I was home on maternity leave for my third son, I discovered a new genre that sparked my creativity. My passion for writing sprang from my love of reading and once I knew I had a story to tell, I couldn’t wait to get it out there. I only hope that my readers enjoy reading my story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Blog Tour: Stormy Surrender by Nicole Andrews Moore

Blurb:
Sometimes the life you planned isn’t the one you get to live.  Sometimes the pain of the past overshadows the future.  And sometimes to start over you have to go back to where it all began.  That’s how it was for Joe Masters.  That’s how he ended up back in New Hope.  And that’s why he was in his thirties and had nothing to show for his life.  He needed a complete overhaul, just like his father’s old house.  Instead of a fast track, he had slowed down and was on a ten year plan.  These days that was more his speed.  And as much as he tried to fight the inevitable, he was learning to accept and surrender.

Martha had weathered her fair share of storms in Vermont, was accustomed to the cold, both the chill in the air and the cold shoulder in her marriage, but after the miscarriage she felt like she would never get warm again.  So she did the research from the laptop while sitting in front of the fireplace.  She knew what she needed when she Googled hope, she just never imagined that it would bring her to New Hope, South Carolina.  She never imagined that her husband would trick her into leaving and never follow.  She never imagined that a southern storm with all its force and fury could be so destructive.  But after the storm, the land is washed clean.  It’s perfect for a fresh start, a clean slate, and a new love.

Excerpt:
Marti glanced at the hammer, then the tile, shrugged, and started swinging. The tile made a lovely high pitched sound as it shattered. The shards flew about the room, ricocheting off the walls and door before landing on the floor. And because that first swing felt so good, she just kept swinging. Each time the sledge hammer connected with the tiles, she would think of what her marriage had been like. She would recall an incident, or a conversation, or any one of a thousand reasons that she should have dumped him, should have ended the marriage years ago. It felt good. Maybe even great. And then she looked down and saw red. Literally. There were blood droplets all over. Before she could even ponder why the room was looking like a crime scene, the wooden handle was ripped from her hands.

“What are you doing?” He sounded incredulous. And annoyed.

“You’re a contractor? What does it look like I’m doing?” She was upset that he had interrupted her impromptu therapy session.

Shaking his head, Joe grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the room. “I know demo and that wasn’t it.”

She growled. “I wasn’t done yet!”

“You, babe? You are finished.” She opened her mouth to argue, but he covered it. With his mouth.

Shocked, she stood there with her eyes wide open. His mouth was pressed against hers. And it didn’t feel wrong at all. Without thinking, she melted into him, wrapped an arm around his neck, and allowed her eyes to slowly flutter shut. Joe bent slightly and scooped her up and held her against his muscular chest. His lips pulled back, but his forehead was pressed against hers. She opened her eyes to find him staring at her.

“Crazy woman,” he muttered to himself as he carried her out the back door of the house. She couldn’t be certain, but it seems like she would have been carried farther if he hadn’t heard the sound of others talking in the front yard.

Slowly he lowered her to the ground and made sure she had her footing before releasing her. She wanted to smile up at him, but she hadn’t decided what to make of that moment. All she could do was look at him and murmur…”Why?”

“I needed to distract you,” he responded with a shrug. And with that he turned and walked away.

 Interview with Blaine:
NAM: So, nice of you to stop by for an interview, Blaine.

Blaine:  Well, I really wanted the chance to tell my side of the story.  Will this take long?  I have a liposuction to perform in a few hours.

NAM:  I’ll try to keep it brief.  Let’s see…how long have you been having an affair with Suzette?

Blaine: My lawyer has advised me not to discuss the nature of my relationship with my office manager.

NAM: Okay.  Now if we can’t talk about Suzette, are we allowed to discuss Martha?  I found it to be really interesting that she was pregnant for your child while you were clearly involved in a relationship with Suzette.

Blaine: I’m pretty sure that would fall under the list of items that I can’t discuss.  Next topic.

NAM: What if we talk about something I know you love talking about?  Tell me a little about yourself.

Blaine: *smiling widely*  I am the plastic surgeon behind the highly regarded Burlington Surgical Solutions.  The practice is nearly five years old and consistently growing.  We offer both surgical and non-surgical procedures to help the patient achieve the desired results.  Our laser services are gaining popularity because there is no down time.  Procedures can be done over a lunch break and the pricing is very affordable.

NAM: It seems like this is the kind of practice that would flourish pretty much anywhere.  Is there a reason that you wouldn’t want to move it to a city like Charlotte where there is a much larger population with that kind of disposable income?

Blaine: * sigh*   It wasn’t Charlotte that was the problem.  It was Marti.  I didn’t want the marriage anymore.

NAM: Did the marriage become more of a problem before or after you started seeing Suzette?

Blaine: After.  Shit.  That was off the record, right?

NAM:  Doctor, there is no off the record.  This is an interview.  By nature it is on the record.

Blaine: Then this interview is finished.

NAM: What do you say to those readers who want to see you get what’s coming to you?

Blaine: I already have everything I deserve.  I’m rich.  I’m successful.  And I am fortunate to have found love a second time.

NAM: I wasn’t aware you had found love a first time.

Blaine: Martha was…never mind.

NAM:  Where do you see yourself in ten years?

Blaine:  I haven’t given that much thought.  *stiffly turns and walks out the door*

NAM:  Clearly.

Blog Tour Stop: Chica Bella by Carly Fall

Blurb:
Landon “Blackhawk” Walker is ready to get out of the Navy SEALs. He has seen and done enough, and can’t wait to get to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico where three tasks await him: get back into civilian mode, take a boat out to the El Arco Rocks, and win back the heart of the woman he lost because of his career.

Maya Gonzalez has tired of the heartbreak that comes with Landon’s deployments year after year. When he walks back into her life, she cannot deny her heart, despite her reservations.

As they lose themselves in each other and the beauty of Cabo, their passion is rekindled once again, but Maya knows that one phone call means deployment for Landon, putting an end to their reunion, and possibly their relationship.

Review:

Chica Bella is a sweet novella centered around Landon, a Navy Seal who's more than ready to hang up his uniform, and Maya, a pretty hotel employee who is the very reason Landon is ready to settle
down. This story opens up with Landon telling his commanding officer that he's done. He's leaving the Navy, no ifs, ands, or buts. He gives his commander two weeks to find him a replacement as he heads to Cabo, to his place a of peace, and the home of the woman he loves.

Maya, albeit thrilled to see Landon, is hesitant to let him back in, as his constant comings & goings have broken her heart in the past. Will she be able to trust that he's really done with that life, or
will she walk away in order to protect her heart?

This was a great, sweet, sexy quick read! Landon is a total alpha hottie, but he's still extremely sweet and attentive to Maya's needs. Maya is portrayed as a strong, sexy woman who knows what she wants. She understands the pain and heartache that Landon's experienced with his job, and she doesn't make him feel guilty for having to leave her. I really enjoyed this story, and it left me wanting more! I want a prequel with their first meeting, I want to read about all of their interactions. I just want more Landon and Maya, and I can't wait to read more of the Honor Guard series!
Excerpt:
“Where were you?” she finally asked, her voice quiet.

“Afghanistan.”

He didn’t look at her, but he felt her body tense next to his. “Were you hurt?”

He shrugged, but then thought better of trying to blow off her questions. Maya had always said she wanted nothing but honesty from him, and he had been the one to offer this Q&A.

“I took some shrapnel in my chest, but it was all superficial.” He gazed down at her as she studied his chest as if she could see the wounds he was talking about.

“Did you kill?” she whispered, her stare never leaving his chest.

Dammit. This was the part he hated because she abhorred violence, but killing was his job. If he didn’t take out the bad guys, they would kill American soldiers, and he would be damned if that happened on his watch. “Yes.”

She closed her eyes for a moment.

“Did you think of me?”

“Oh, God, Maya.” He put his finger under her chin and turned her face to his. Her brown eyes sparkled with tears that made his heart feel as though it might quit beating. “Maya, it’s always you. It’s thinking of you that made me want to stay alive. It’s the thought of your smile, your face, your body pressed up against mine that kept me warm at night, the sound of your laughter that made me smile when I felt like I couldn’t smile again. Maya....”

He didn’t know what else to say, so he did what he had wanted to do since the day he left her almost a year ago.
